What a Feeling! Flashdance Bursts into ATL Bringing the 80s Rushing Back!

Does that video bring back memories?  I hope so....and if it does, you need to make arrangements to head down to Atlanta's Famous Fox Theatre this weekend to see, "Flashdance - The Musical."

If, like me, you have not seen the movie Flashdance in a very long time, rest assured -- it doesn't take five minutes into the musical to bring it all flooding back to memory.

ONE GIRL.  ONE DREAM.  ONCE CHANCE.

That's the basic premise and motto of Flashdance.

Presented by Fifth Third Bank and Broadway in Atlanta, Flashdance stars Emily Padgett, recently of Rock of Ages, Legally Blonde, and Grease, as Alex Owens, a lady steelworker who dreams of being a legitimate dancer while moonlighting as an exotic dancer, and Matthew Hydzik, of West Side Story and Grease, as Alex's boss and love interest, Nick.

Flashdance - The Musical follows the story of Alex as she journeys from a doldrum day job to starting down the road to her dreams.

Along the way, we meet her daytime steel factory co-workers - where we grow to understand them, the work they do, and the hard financial times they face.  We meet her friends at the club where she dances at night -- learning their stories and their personalities.  We watch her meet and fall in love with Nick, her boss from the steel factory.  And, finally, we rejoice with Alex as she gets the dance audition she so strived and longed for at a prestigious Pittsburgh dance school.

Flashdance - The Musical is the story of believing in and following your dreams.  It is the story of not leaving everything behind.  It is the story of following your passions or dying inside.

Flashdance - The Musical features all the iconic songs you remember from the movie ("What a Feeling," "Maniac," "Gloria," "Manhunt," and "I Love Rock and Roll") plus it gives us a whopping 16 new songs, written by Robbie Roth and Robert Cary.  To be honest, it's hard to tell where the old songs stop and the new ones begin.

The show takes a few "liberties" with it's language, and while there is no nudity, there are plenty of costumes that bring us close to it.  So, while this isn't necessarily an R-rated musical, I would think twice before bringing children.

Wanna take a sweet trip back down memory lane to the 80s, leg warmers, and headbands?  Visit the Fox Theatre this weekend and see, "Flashdance - The Musical."

Tickets start at $33 and will be available at the Fox Theatre box office, www.broadwayinatlanta.com/ www.FoxAtlTix.com/flashdance, or by calling 1-855-ATL-TIXX.  Group orders of 10 or more may be placed by calling 404-881-2000.
